How to create a pro Facebook page in 2026 (and change the URL in 3 clicks)

Setting up a Facebook business page properly from the start, then replacing the endless address with a short link in your own name.

A Facebook business page takes five minutes to create. The problem lies elsewhere: most are created in a rush, with an unreadable address and half the fields empty, then never revisited. Here is how to do both parts properly.

Part 1 — Creating the page

Sign in with the personal profile that will manage the page. That matters: a page always belongs to a profile, and that profile should be yours, not that of a passing employee.

Then, Create and Page. Three fields are enough for the page to exist, but six matter for it to be useful.

The name. Your business name, with no keywords bolted on. "Tremblay Plumbing", not "Tremblay Plumbing | Plumber Quebec City 24h emergency". Facebook refuses or penalizes keyword-stuffed names, and changing the name later is a hassle.

The category. Choose a precise one. It determines the fields you get: a restaurant gets the menu, a local business gets the address and hours.

The description. Two sentences: what you do, for whom, where. This is what appears in search results.

The visuals. Profile photo: your logo, legible small and round. Cover: a real photo of your premises or your work, not a stock image.

The practical information. Phone, address if you receive customers, service area otherwise, opening hours, website.

The action button. At the top of the page: Call, Send message, Book or Contact. Pick the one that matches how your customers actually reach you.

Part 2 — Changing the URL

At creation, Facebook assigns an address like `facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558...`. Impossible to dictate over the phone, impossible to print.

The username replaces it with `facebook.com/TremblayPlumbing`.

Where to do it: in the page settings, under Page information (or "Username", depending on the interface). You must be an admin.

The rules:

  • letters, numbers and periods only, no spaces
  • five characters minimum
  • it must be unique — if the exact name is taken, add the city: `TremblayPlumbingQc`
  • it can be changed, but avoid changing it often: every link already shared stops working

Pick the same handle as on Instagram and your other networks. One name for your customers to remember, one line on the business card.

What most pages forget

Messaging. If nobody watches Messenger, turn it off or set an honest automatic reply ("we answer within one business day; for emergencies, call…"). A publicly displayed response time of "a few days" does more harm than a closed inbox.

A second admin. A page tied to a single personal profile disappears with it. Add a second trusted person, from day one.

The first content. Nobody comes back to an empty page. Three posts to start: who you are, a completed job, how to reach you.
